Recycling can be cool

Everybody knows the value and importance of recycling. Whether it is regarding simple plastics, aluminum, cardboard or even ink and toner cartridges, the effect of recycling can be huge and truly make a difference in the world someday. There are so many materials and money that does not have to be wasted if everybody would just reuse things that are reusable. Maybe the trick to getting others to recycle is to make it an exciting experience, like in this youtube video.

What is a flash mob? It is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It is a large group of people who seem like complete strangers to each other, and then in a flash it is apparent that they are all in one place for the same reason. For instance, let’s say you go to the mall around Christmas time and you are enjoying a slice of pizza in the food court. All of a sudden a random woman starts singing silent night. Just when you start to think she is a little off her rocker, she is joined by 2 more people, then 10 more, then 50 more. Before you know it, you are surrounded by a choir of 50+ people all singing in perfect harmony.

Recycling could have the same chain reaction as a flash mob. If one person starts doing it, maybe a few others will join. Then maybe a few more after that will keep the streak going, and soon enough it will be an entire mass of people all revolutionizing an economical aware behavior. The bottom line is that if this recycling thing doesn’t catch on soon, there is going to be a landfill in every small town in America filled with ink and toner cartridges that could have been used at least one more time.
