Brother HL-4050

The Brother HL-4050 is one of Brother’s wireless capable printers for use in a network environment. The device can connect to multiple workstations simultaneously, making it ideal for business reports or use in student computer labs. HL-4050 is compatible with personal computers using Windows XP and Windows Vista or servers with Windows Server 2003. This model will also works with Mac OS X 10.2 and later, so it is perfect for mixed operating system environments.

The manufacturer has included wireless networking capabilities via the wireless B and G standards, relying on a central access point such as a wireless router. Computers up to 233 feet away can communicate with this device. Brother offers several security features to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the printer on a wireless network. For example, a web-based security manager allows users to securely use the BR Admin Professional utility. Internet printing protocol and HTTPS work together to allow secure printing via Web browser.

This model is also compatible with standard Ethernet, wired networking or USB cables. Wired printing may be preferable for multi-page documents with a combination of text and images, such as flow charts or marketing material, as both Ethernet and USB cables offer higher data transfer speeds than wireless printing. Wired options include peer-to-peer printing via TCP/IP and network shared printing, which routes print requests through a central computer.

Brother model HL-4050 comes with several programs for managing printing projects. BR Admin Light facilitates connections between the printer and devices on the network, while Web BR Admin manages multiple Brother devices that exist on the same network.

When it’s time to refill toner, Brother sells individual black, cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges for their HL-4050 model.
