The printer is able to produce 23 black and white pages per minute and 18 color pages per minute. It is also able to print borderless images on photo paper.
The printer is designed to work in homes or small offices, as it is able to produce high quality images at a rapid rate and even features a 100 sheet paper tray. Further, this printer is Mac and Windows operating system compatible, allowing it to be used as a media center printer as well.
While the HP Deskjet 5740 boasts a large variety of features, there are also a large variety of problems with this printer. One of the most common complaints about the Deskjet 5740 is that it runs into paper jams constantly. Users have also reported that if the paper does not jam, it will still often simply stop printing in the middle of a print job. When this occurs the print job has to be cancelled and started over again. Additionally, while HP touts the quality of the printer, many users have run into issues with the print quality diminishing rapidly over time, in spite of full ink cartridges and minimal use.
While some people who have purchased this printer have reported problem free use, most owners of the HP Deskjet 5740 are unsatisfied and do not recommend it.
